During the past year we have studied Crafting Stories for Children by Nancy Lamb. I just read The Mystery of Ghost Dancer Ranch by our peer, Patrick Craig. He used many of the principles we learned in our study and I encourage you to read his books.
The Mystery of Ghost Dancer Ranch is set in Petaluma, California. Cousins, Punkin and Boo, spend a summer together at their grandparents’ ranch and stumble into an adventure of a lifetime when they discover secret tunnels and caves under the ranch left over from an old Spanish Mission. Their search for the source of Indian drums and dancing sounds lead them to the center of a desperate crook’s plot to steal the ranch to build a casino. Punkin and Boo’s investigation for truth leads them to more than Native American history. Buried under the ranch is a truth richer than California. You’ll be tempted to compare fiction with history as you read this exciting story and you’ll look forward to the next in a series of mysteries with Punkin and Boo.
Patrick, this is a great story and I look forward to reading the next in the series. I am sharing it with my ten-year-old granddaughter who enjoys reading ghost stories. 🙂
Wow, I definitely am intrigued by what Punkin and Boo found! History crossing fiction is wonderful for children and adults. Patrick, you are a great writer. I still remember your chip-wearing tough guy who lost his mom. I have been really blessed by all of our group in one way or another.
